The main goal of the department is to teach students the theoretical and practical foundations of economics, and to train them as specialists with analytical thinking who can analyze modern economic processes.

In order to ensure the implementation of the Resolution No. 183 of the UNEC Scientific Council meeting dated May 31, 2022, the departments of “International Economics”, “Theoretical and Practical Economics”, “Regulation of the Economy” and “Economic Theory” were abolished as of 02.09.2022 and the Department of “Economics” was established on their basis. From 02.09.2022, Dr. Sugra Humbatova was appointed as the Head of the Department of “Economics”.

The priority of the department is to introduce new standards and methods in accordance with the modern curriculum of the world's leading universities in order to improve the quality of education at the bachelor's and master's levels. At the doctoral level, doctoral students and dissertation candidates studying in the Doctor of Science and Doctor of Philosophy programs in economics in full-time and part-time forms of education are provided with scientific guidance by leading scientists at the Department of Economics.
