Doctoral education is conducted under the programs of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Doctor of Sciences.
Doctoral studies are offered in full-time (with separation from professional employment) and part-time (without separation from professional employment) formats. Doctoral education is provided on a state-funded and/or fee-paying basis.
Under the Doctor of Philosophy program, the duration of full-time doctoral studies is three years, while part-time study lasts four years. Citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who have completed a master’s degree (and defended a master’s thesis) or whose education is considered equivalent are eligible to apply for doctoral studies under the Doctor of Philosophy program.
During the period of study, doctoral candidates are required to report periodically at department meetings on the implementation of their individual work plans and to undergo attestation at least once a year. Continuation of doctoral studies in the following academic year is determined based on the results of attestation.
Attestation is carried out by evaluating the level and quality of fulfillment of the individual work plan. Individuals who have fulfilled their individual work plans and completed their scientific research work (dissertation) are admitted to the defense of the dissertation in order to obtain the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
